How to determine whether sound-absorbing panels need to be replaced?
Release time :
Jul 24,2025
Source :
Measure the sound absorption coefficient using professional instruments (standard value ≥ 0.8).
1. Performance Indicator Testing
Decreased sound absorption efficiency:
Measure the sound absorption coefficient using professional instruments (standard value ≥ 0.8). If it is less than 30% of the initial value or the reverberation time increases significantly, it indicates that the sound absorption performance has deteriorated. When the sound absorption effect in the low frequency range (below 250 Hz) weakens, replacement should be considered first. 1Abnormal frequency response:
When testing with music or human voice playback, if high frequencies are sharp or low frequencies are muddy, it indicates that the sound-absorbing panels have reduced absorption capacity for specific frequency bands.
2. Physical Condition Inspection
Structural Damage:
Cracks, deformation, warping, or blocked perforations (e.g., dust accumulation exceeding 50% of the surface area). Moisture-induced swelling of wooden sound-absorbing panels or rusting of metal panels can impair acoustic performance.
Surface Aging:
Fabric acoustic panels may fade, pill, or mineral wool panels may powderize and peel off, requiring immediate replacement.
3. Environmental Adaptability Assessment
Fire Resistance Rating Failure:
If the original fire resistance rating (e.g., GB8624 B1 grade) has deteriorated to below C grade due to aging or damage, it poses a safety hazard.
Environmental Standards Non-compliance:
Formaldehyde emission exceeding the standard (>1.5 mg/L) or persistent odor may pose health risks.
4. Reference for Service Life
Typical service life: polyester fiber/metal panels (15–30 years) > wooden/wood fiber panels (10–20 years) > mineral wool/glass wool panels (10–15 years).
Extended service life: If the service life exceeds 50% of the design lifespan and performance has deteriorated, replacement is recommended.
5. Maintenance cost considerations
When annual maintenance costs exceed 30% of the cost of new materials, replacement is more economical.
